What if...? In many situations we have, over a cup of coffee, discussed the possibilities that have arisen out of combining a few of the projects Techtown has been in charge of, or combining programs and app lets developed by Techtown. Very often we create a solution for a specific task, or to solve a defined problem. The same solution can in combination with other products, be put to entire other assignments.

On this page we intend to present a few examples of these combinations put to new, and unexpected uses....

What if the management of a chain of shops selling women’s clothing wants to promote their new sales using OTHER forms of marketing... than the old fashioned black and white leaflet distributed in potential customers mailbox. What other forms of marketing a specific message do we have in 2005? TV, radio, sure.. banners and road side poster.... then; E-mail! of course.

SMS or text messaging is today the most used item on a youngsters cell phone, and the least item used on a grown ups. Surprisingly when considering how cost effective a simple text message can prove to be, as compared to a costly call only to achieve the same answer to the question.

What about SMS? Even if almost ”everyone” has a personal computer, and E-mail they still do not save anymore of electronic marketing leaflets than the old fashioned paper ones. More so, the electronic leaflet is marked as spam, and the senders of E-mail and often the senders’ server or even the senders URL is banned.... forever. Unsolicited E-mail is possibly even more unwelcome than the flu.

The How To is fairly simple: Combine the Techtown Billing with the Techtown SMS Server and a simple Access database report, and Viola! it is up and going. When the customer is in the shop, hang up a little poster on the side of all the items with the following text: “Do you want to see this item on sales? If so, please take a minute to register your cell phone number with us, and the article number. When the item is on sale, you will receive a SMS from us.” Then follow the text with 2-3 explanatory pictures of a person adding the information to be sent as a text message.

They then send the text message to your SMS server. When the server has received the message, the information is stored in the database, and the sender receives a confirmation SMS. It is now easy to target the objects to be put up for sale, either as targeted items or items to function as teasers.

Why stop there? The system also enables a connection point to our Wapshop solution. Here is a suggestive text: “Do you want to buy this item on sales? If so, please take a minute to register your cell phone no. with us, and the no. of the item. When the item is on sales, you will receive a SMS from us with the order link.” The difference here, is that the items that is to be promoted on sale, will also be made available on Wapshop, so the customer can order directly and instant.
